This policy explains how BRITS PET UK, trading as Brits Pet (“we”, “us”), handles personal data collected through britspet.co.uk. We are the data controller for that information.

1. Who we are

2. What we collect

When you buy something: your name and email address, your country for tax purposes, order details and reference number, and partial card information from our payment provider (last four digits and card type only).

We do not receive or store your full card number, expiry date or security code. Card processing is carried out entirely by our payment provider on their own systems.

When you contact us: your name, email address and the content of your message.

When you subscribe: your email address, plus the date and time you consented.

Automatically: standard server logs including IP address, browser type and pages viewed, plus analytics data if you have consented to analytics cookies.

3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To fulfil your order and send your download — performance of a contract.
  • To answer your enquiries — legitimate interests.
  • To send marketing emails — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To keep financial records — legal obligation under UK tax law.
  • To keep the site secure and working — legitimate interests.

4. How long we keep it

  • Order and transaction records: six years, as required for UK tax purposes.
  • Email marketing list: until you unsubscribe, then removed within 30 days.
  • Enquiry correspondence: 24 months from the last message.
  • Server logs: typically 90 days.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We share it only with the service providers we need to run the business, each acting under contract: our payment provider, our email and delivery provider, our hosting provider, our analytics provider where you have consented, and professional advisers or authorities where we are legally required to.

Where a provider is outside the UK, transfers are covered by UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement.

6. Cookies

We use cookies that are strictly necessary for the site and checkout to function — these do not require consent. Any analytics or marketing cookies are set only after you have agreed via the cookie banner, and you can change your mind at any time.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, have inaccurate data corrected, have your data erased where we have no overriding obligation to keep it, restrict or object to how we use it, receive your data in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time without affecting anything done beforehand.

To exercise any of these, email info@britspet.co.uk. We will respond within one month.

8. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, tell subscribers by email.
